Soul Amazônia: Learn about our environmental awareness campaign

News
According to data from the Deforestation Alert System (SAD) and the Amazon Institute of People and the Environment (Imazon), deforestation in the Legal Amazon increased by 68% in January 2025 compared to the same period the previous year. This represents 113 km² of forest and biodiversity loss. In response to this alarming scenario, SOS Amazônia works daily to protect standing forests and restore degraded areas through the implementation of agroforestry systems.

To connect people who believe in protecting nature and conserving biodiversity, the NGO launched the movement Soul Amazônia—a name that plays on the English word “soul” and the Portuguese word “sou” (meaning “I am”). The campaign promotes environmental awareness activities designed to awaken a sense of responsibility for caring for the planet. “It’s a ‘soul call’—an invitation to inspire and strengthen each person’s positive actions in defense of the environment,” explains Bleno Caleb, the campaign’s coordinator.

You can contribute any amount you would like to support our cause, but we also offer suggested monthly plans of $10, $15, or $25 for those who want to join our movement in defense of the environment. Membership can be canceled at any time, and payments can be made via credit card or PayPal. With your contribution, the NGO is actively reforesting former grazing lands, turning them into thriving forests.
First community action through the campaign:

To launch the campaign, SOS Amazônia carried out its first community tree-planting event, made possible by donations received through its website. The activity took place on March 28 and relied on the essential support of SOS Amazônia’s technical team, middle school students from Nair Sombra School in Capixaba, Acre, and local digital influencers such as Maxine, Daniel Cruz, Tássio Fúria, and Aline Rocha. Rayssa Alves, founder of Made in Acre—a partner

brand supporting the campaign–was also present.

During the community action, 500 trees of native Amazonian species were planted, including Brazil nut (castanheira), rubber tree (seringueira), samauma (samaúma), mahogany (mogno), Brazilian cherry (jatobá), and yellowwood (amarelão). All of these species are strategic for restoring the soil and biodiversity of the forest. The initial planting site, called Soul Amazônia, covers three hectares and is located in Capixaba, in the countryside of Acre.

Members who contribute to this impact receive a monthly newsletter detailing the monitoring of the area and its saplings, providing updates from the grazing scenario through to the transformation into forest.

“We learn a lot in school about the environment and about the Earth where we live. We should take good care of it, since all these trees help us exist,” says student Kailyn Nascimento.
Looking ahead:

After achieving such promising results, the plan is to expand the Soul Amazônia campaign. “By the end of this year, we hope to reach 500 supporters committed to our cause and continue the restoration of the entire three hectares,” says journalist Bleno Caleb.

On social media platforms, the movement gained support from artists and public figures involved in environmental causes, including singers Zenaide Parteira and Patrícia Bastos, activists Sergio Marone and Rogério Fernandes, and actresses Giovanna Antonelli, Bruna Linzmeyer, Carolina Kasting, Lucy Alves, Dira Paes, and Malu Mader.

“Your support for SOS Amazônia is transformed into care for nature: you help plant a tree on former grazing land, which will be monitored by our team until it becomes part of an agroforest. It’s beautiful to know we can create this kind of impact together.” says actress Malu Mader in a video promoting the campaign.
