From the World Cup to Amazon protection: campaign invites people to cheer for the forest

Millions of people gather in front of their screens to celebrate goals, cheer for victories, and root for their national teams. But while the World Cup mobilizes the world, a Brazilian organization extends a different kind of invitation: for that same collective force to take the field for the Amazon Rainforest as well.

In this spirit of unity, SOS Amazônia is launching an international campaign on the Global Giving platform to raise funds dedicated to the permanent protection of 45 hectares of Amazon rainforest in Acre. The area is home to rich biodiversity, a water source, and species that are crucial to the region's climate balance.

The proposal stems from a simple idea: if soccer can unite people from different cultures around a common goal, why not mobilize that same sentiment to protect a natural heritage that benefits all of humanity?

"Just as every player makes a difference on the field, we believe that every person can also make a difference in protecting the Amazon. No matter the size of the contribution, when thousands of people unite for a cause, the impact becomes extraordinary," says Álisson Maranho, Technical Director of SOS Amazônia.

In addition to directly supporting forest conservation, donors can track a concrete and measurable impact. Each contribution represents an area effectively protected, allowing the results to be visualized in preserved square meters or hectares—a transparent way to bring people closer to environmental conservation.

The campaign is part of SOS Amazônia’s strategy to internationalize its fundraising efforts and seeks to engage individuals, companies, and institutions from various countries in a cause that transcends borders. After all, protecting the Amazon means conserving biodiversity, water resources, traditional ways of life, and the ecosystem services essential for climate balance.

For 38 years, SOS Amazônia has been working to conserve the forest, strengthen local communities, and promote sustainable development in the Brazilian Amazon. Now, it invites the whole world to wear the forest's colors. Because some games end in 90 minutes. Protecting the Amazon is a match that must be won every day.
